A synthesis theory for a class of saturating systems
International Journal of Control, Vol.38(1), pp.169-187

Abstract
The objective is to develop a synthesis theory to guarantee acceptable performance of a feedback system, even under hard saturation. A major factor is L n, the system loop transmission with respect to the saturating element N. L n is independent of other fundamental system functions, if the output of N is available for feedback. It is shown how L n may be shaped to achieve good performance under saturation. Conditionally stable systems may be designed exclusively with linear compensation, to achieve their customary superior feedback benefits, without the danger of limit Cycling under saturation. The above has so far been confined to stable, Type 1 stable plants.
